Center Announces Top Racial Equity Rankings
for 15 Minnesota Private-Sector Businesses
In our 2023 Racial Equity Dividends Index Report for the Private Sector, we highlight overall findings from participating Minnesota businesses and spotlight those making significant progress to build racially inclusive workplaces.
This year, 15 private-sector businesses achieved high-scoring status: 3M, Allina Health, Allianz, Best Buy, Bremer, Carousel Motor Group, Gillette Children’s, Grant Thornton, Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures, Minnesota Twins, Mortenson, PAR Systems, Pohlad Companies, United Properties, and U.S. Bank.
“We thank all Index participants and celebrate those that achieved a high score, often in multiple dimensions (categories),” said Tawanna A. Black, Founder and CEO. “It has been our honor to help these businesses assess their performance on the leading standards for building an anti-racist workplaces.”
“The Index findings not only affirm that the critical work to build racially equitable and inclusive workplaces is well underway, but underscores the leadership champions, accountability mechanisms, and sustained commitment it requires.”
Overall, 22 companies participated in the 2023 Index to evaluate their existing practices against 43 racially equitable standards across seven dimensions (see graphic below), compare their progress to peers, and consider the next steps in their journey.
Collectively, these companies employed more than 95,000 full-time, part-time, and contingent workers in Minnesota and more than 414,000 workers globally.

By participating in the Index, businesses demonstrate their commitment to measurable, sustainable, and systemic change rooted in anti-racism principles -- and serve as a model for other private-sector companies to follow. This is how we build a regional economy that truly works for everyone.
