Several dates each year, the Center for Economic Inclusion invites leaders to join us for this life-changing experience designed to facilitate peer learning among executives and leaders.

Hosted in Montgomery, Alabama with experiences in Atlanta, Georgia and Selma, Alabama, this immersive experience reckons with America’s history of racism and othering, and the implications of this history on our relationships, systems, and efforts to build racially just, inclusive, and equitable communities in Minnesota today.

Tour participants will explore the impacts of slavery and the Civil Rights movement on their beliefs, relationships, and power dynamics, through self-reflection, and within cohort conversations.

They will uncover how they can use their own position and experiences to invest in the time, talent, and resources needed in order to dismantle systemic racism and build communities that embody anti-racist values.

Activities:

Through the Tour, delegates will move through a series of powerful yet intimate experiences with time for reflection and thoughtful, curated discussions. Tour itinerary includes:

  • Legacy Museum: From Slavery to Mass Incarceration

  • The King Center: Tour and Discussion

  • National Memorial for Peace and Justice

  • Bus Journey from Montgomery to Selma –Edmund Pettus Bridge

  • Facilitated workshops

  • Formal and informal meals, networking, and reflection

Tour Objectives

  • Deepen organizational relationships and commitment to take and sustain anti-racist business actions in solidarity.

  • Uncover a deeper understanding of the impact of slavery and Jim Crow racism on America’s justice and economic systems, and the way we live.

  • Shed light on how the Civil Rights movement continues in our relationships, decisions, investments, and results today to catalyze new cross-sector and cross-racial anti-racist relationships for tomorrow.

  • Consider the role that America’s history with race has on our racial and economic division and inequities today, and how, by understanding that history, together across racial and economic lines, we can begin to build a more inclusive economy.
